22. Nervous Polyuria

Name: Du.

Sex: Male.

Age: 23 years.

Occupation: A college student.

Chief Complaint: Frequent urination for 2 and a half years.

History of Present Illness: Two and a half years ago, the patient got frequent urination without any obvious causes, he urinated 25-30 times in a day and 7 or 8 times in a night. There weren't urgency of urination, urodynia, hematuria, proteinuria and so on. In the past 2 years, he had got innumerable treatments of taking the "Bolus of Six Drugs Including Rehmannia" from the local policlinic, but there was no effect on him. Then he was sent to some hospitals in Nanjing for treatment. The examination of ultrasonogram showed the both sides of kidneys, ureters and the bladder were all normal, the routine uronoscopy and the test of renogram showed no abnormal sign was found. Only the cystometry showed the internal pressure of the bladder was lower than normal. Then the illness was diagnosed as "Nervous Polyuria. "After many times of treatment of TCM and western medicine, there was no effect on him. Then the patient came here for treatment on October 20,1995. The patient had bad sleeping and poor appetite in recent 2 years, the stool was loose and formless. There wasn't other complaint.

Physical Examination: The patient was conscious with a normal general condition. The pulse was thready and soggy. The tongue was pale with a greasy layer of white fur. There wasn't other abnormal sign.

Diagnosis: Nervous Polyuria.

Differentiation: It's deficiency of kidney Yang, which caused the dampness evil was retained in the lower Jiao. So that the functional activities of the bladder-qi were weakened and the urination couldn't be controlled within normal limit.

Therapeutic Principle: Warming kidney and spleen, reinforcing kidney-Yang to control the micturition, invigorating spleen to eliminate dampness.

Recipe:

DangShen,Pilose Asiabell Root 25g

BaiZhu,Bighead Atractylodes Rhizome 20g

ZhiFuZi,Prepared Aconite Root 10g

GuiZhi, Cinnamon Twig 15g

DuHuo,Pubescent Angelica Root 20g

YinYangHuo, Epimedium 25g

DuZhong,Eucommia Bark 20g

BuGuZhi,Psoralea Fruit 20g

JinYingZi,Cherokee Rose-hip 30g

RouGui,Cinnamon Bark 10g

FuPenZi, Raspberry 25g

ShanZhuYu,Dogwood Fruit 20g

SuanZaoRen,Wild Jujuba Seed 20g

SangPiaoXiao,Mantis Egg-case 15g

GanCao,Liquorice Root 10g

All the above drugs were to be decocted in water for oral taking. He was told to take 8 doses of the above prescription. In the same period, acupoint injection was used. 2ml of placenta injection was injected into the point of Shenshu (BL23);2ml of placenta injection was injected into the point of Fuliu (KIT), 1 time a day. There were 5 times of point-injection totally. The patient was told to control the water intake before his sleeping.

Effect Observation: After taking the 2nd dose, the patient became inspiring, his sleeping got better, he urinated 4 times in a night; after using the 5th dose, the patient urinated 1 or 2 times in a night and 10 times or so in a day. After taking the 8 doses, he urinated 1 or 2 times in a night and less than 10 times in a day. After half a year' s follow up, the illness didn' t recur. Then it' s ending.
