Case 4

Name: Dong.

Sex: Female.

Age: 23 years.

Occupation: A college student.

Chief Complaint: Intermittent diarrhea for more than 9 months.

History of Present Illness: More than 9 months ago, the patient got diarrhea caused by catching a cold, it was accompanied with abdominal pain and distension. The stool was soup-like and formless, it was moved 3 or 4 times a day. After treatment of taking "Norfloxacin, Berberine Hydrochloride" and "Furazolidone," the abdominal pain and distension were relieved soon, but the diarrhea was as same as before. In the past 9 months,the stool was moved 3 or 4 times every day, it was loose and formless. In addition, the patient got weakness and chill usually. After the illness came on, she got poor appetite and bad sleeping, and she felt her memory got poorer than before. Her urine was white and abundant. Then she came to our hospital for treatment on October 3,1995.

Physical Examination: The patient was conscious with a normal general condition. The pulse was thready and soggy, the body of the tongue was pale with a thick layer of white fur, the root of tongue was covered with a thick layer of yellowish fur. The chest and abdomen were all normal. There was not other abnormal sign.

Diagnosis: Chronic Enteritis.

Differentiation: It was caused by retention of cold-dampness in spleen and the stomach resulting from attack of exogenous pathogenic wind and cold. As a result of a long time of incorrect treatment, kidney-Yang and spleen-Yang had been hurt by the 10ng term of the diarrhea. On the other hand, deficiency of spleen-Yang and kidney Yang could aggravate diarrhea because the deficient kidney Yang and spleen Yang could not normally control defecation.

Therapeutic Principle: Eliminating pathogenic cold and warming the middle-Jiao; invigorating kidney-Yang and the qi of spleen and stomach to stop the diarrhea, tranquillizing the mind and benefiting the intelligence in order to improve memory and ameliorate sleeping, clearing away the damp-heat in the lower-Jiao with heat clearing drug and dampness-eliminating drug.

All the above drugs were to be decocted in water for oral taking. She was told to take 3 doses of the above prescription. In the same period, point injection was used. There were 2 groups of used points. The 1st group included Sanyinjiao(SP6,both sides) and Zusanli(ST36,both sides);the 2nd group included Pishu (BL20, both sides) and Shenshu (BL23, both sides). 4ml of placenta injection was injected into the points of the used group, lml a point. Each group of the points was alternatively used in every other day.

Effect Observation: After 3 days' treatment, the stool was moved 2 times a day, the patient' s spirit and memory got better than before. After taking the 3 doses and 5 days of acupoint injection, the patient was cured completely. After half a year' s follow up, the illness didn' t recur. Then it' s ending.
