Occupation: A teacher.

Chief Complaint: Dizziness and obstructed sensation of dextral ear for 1 week.

History of Present lllness: One week ago, the patient got dizziness, hypodynamia and obstructed sensation of her dextral ear due to catching a cold. She felt her audition became lower than before obviously, accompanied with soreness of throat, hoarse voice, chili and weakness. Then she went to the local policlinic and was treated with the "powder of ZhengCaiHu, Spiramycin, Cap's lincomycini" for 1 week. The hypodynamia, weakness, soreness of throat, hoarse voice and chill were all relieved greatly, but the obstructed sensation of dextral ear and dizziness were as same as before. Then she came here for treatment on December 10,1996.

Physical Examination: The patient was conscious with a normal general condition. The pulse was floating and tense. The tongue was light red with a thin layer of white fur. The dextral auride was normal. The dextral antrum auris was unobstructed. The tympanic membrane was intact, its umbilical region subsided inside. The mucous membrane of the retropharyngeal wall was congestive. Both tonsils were swelling (¢ò¡ã). There wasn't other abnormal sign.

Diagnosis: Acute Catarrhal Otitis Media.

Differentiation: It was caused by exogenous pathogenic wind and cold, which wrapped up pathogenic dampness closely and attacked muscular interstices, then dizziness and asthenia were caused; the pathogenic wind and cold attacked the ear and then the obstructed sensation of ear was caused; when the throat was attacked by the pathogenic wind and cold and was obstructed by the pathogenic dampness, the patient then got the hoarse voice.

Therapeutic Principle: Expelling pathogenic wind and cold and relieving superficies syndrome, expelling dampness evil and expelling pathogenic factors from muscles, expelling pathogenic factors to ease the throat and keep the ear clear and unobstruted.

All the above drugs were to be decocted in water for oral taking. 2 doses were prescribed.

Effect Observation: After taking the decoction, the patient was cured. After half a month' s follow-up, the patient was in good health all along. Then it's ending.
