Huaihua Flos Sophorae
The source is from the flower bud of Sophora japonica L., family Leguminosae. The medicinal material is cultivated in most parts of China. The flower bud is collected from June to July, dried in the sun. The crude or stir-baked one can be used.
Medicinal Properties Bitter in flavor, slightly cold in nature and attributive to the liver and large intestine meridians.
Actions Cool the blood and stop bleeding, clear away liver-heat and lower the fire.
Application
1. It is used for bleeding due to blood-heat, especially for bleeding from the lower part of the body. The carbonized form is usually used. For hematochezia and hemorrhoids, it is usually combined with Diyu (Radix Sanguisorbae); for hemoptysis and epistaxis, usually used toether with Xianhecao (Herba Agrimoniae ), Baimaogen (Rhizoma Imperatae ), and Cebaiye ( Cacumen Biotae), etc..
2. For headache and conjunctivitis due to flaming-up of the dominant liver-fire, it can be decocted as tea or used together with Xiakucao ( Spica Prunellae ), Juhua (Flos Chrysanthemi ) .
Usage and Dosage 10 - 15 g is used in decoction for oral use.
