Cebaiye Cacumen Biotae
The source is from the tender branch and leaf of Biota orientalis (L.) endl., family Cupressaceae. The plants are cultivated in all parts of China. The medicinal material can be collected all year round. The crude or charred one can be used.
Medicinal Properties Bitter and astringent in flavor, slightly cold in nature and attributive to the lung, liver and large intestine meridians.
Actions Cool the blood and stop bleeding, eliminate phlegm and relieve cough.
Application
1. It is used for all kinds of internal or external bleedings. For bleeding due to blood-heat manifested as hemoptysis, haematemesis, epistaxis, hematuria, and metrorrhagia and metrostaxis, it can be combined with Daji (Radix Cirsii Japonici ) , Xiaoji ( Herba Cephalanoploris), Baimaogen (Rhizoma Imperatae) ; for bleeding due to trauma injures, the fresh is used alone externally. Otherwise, in treating bleeding due to deficiency and cold, it is often combined with Aiye (Folium Artemisiae Argyi ) , Paojiang ( Rhizoma Zingiberis Praeparata ) and others that warm channels to stop bleeding.
2. For cough with plenty of sputum, especially for cough with yellowish and thick sputum, and dyspnea due to lung-heat, it can be used alone or combined with Huangqin (Radix Scutellariae), Shashen (Radix Adenophorae Strictae ) , etc..
In addition, it is also prepared into tincture for external application to treat loss of hair.
Usage and Dosage 10 - 15 g is used in decoction for oral use, and just right amount for external use.
