Aiye Folium Artemisiae Argyi
The source is from the leaf of Artemisia argyi levl. et Vant., family Compositae. The medicinal material is produced in all parts of China, collected in the period between spring and summer when the flower is not open, dried in the sun or in shade. The crude or the carbonized one can be used. The plant is cut, dried in the sun and pounded into wool, which is called dry moxa which moxa stick is made of.
Medicinal Properties Bitter and pungent in flavor, warm in nature and attributive to the liver, spleen and kidney meridians.
Actions Stop bleeding by warming meridians, expel cold and alleviate pain, and prevention of miscarriage.
Application
1. For bleeding syndrome due to deficiency and cold, especially for metrorrhagia and metrostaxis. It can be carbonized for use or in combination with Ejiao (Colla Corii Asini), Dihuang ( Radix Rehmanniae ), etc., such as Jiao'ai Tang (Decoction); for bleeding due to blood heat, such as hemoptysis and epistaxis, the fresh should be used together with fresh Shengdihuang (Radix Rehmanniae), Xiancebaiye ( Cacumen Biotae, fresh) and Heye ( Folium Nelumbinis ) .
2. For asthenia-cold of the lower energizer or cold attacking uterus manifested as abdominal pain and cold, irregular menstruation, abdominal pain during menstruation and abnormal leukorrhea, it is usually combined with Danggui (Radix Angelicae Sinensis ), Xiangfu ( Rhizoma Cyperi) , etc..
3. For vaginal bleeding during pregnancy and threatened abortion, it is usually combined with Chuanxuduan ( Radix Dipsaci ), Sangjisheng ( Ramulus Taxilli ), etc..
In addition, it is decocted for washing to treat eczema and itching of the skim the moxa stick made of dry moxa is put over the acupoints and ignited, which can send heat into the interior and has the action of promoting circulation of qi and the blood in the channels by warming. Volatile oil has the actions of relieving cough, removing phlegm and relieving asthma.
Usage and Dosage 3 - 10 g is used in decoction for oral use; the stir-baked one is used for warming channels to stop bleeding and other syndromes are treated with the crude; just right amount is used externally.
