Chhattisgarh government promoting herbal treatment for healthcare
The State Government has instituted a dispensary for traditional herbal therapy in the Baikunthpur Forest Division of Koria District under the project People's Protected Area (PPA).

The herbal centre is in tune with the Chief Minister Dr. Raman Singh declaring the state as 'Herbal State of India'. According to the Divisional Forest Officer, their Department is committed to propagate herbal therapy and assist in its growth.

"Chhattisgarh has been announced as the Herbal State by the government. The herbal medicines are found in ample amount in the forests of Chhattisgarh and we want that people should get benefit from these medicines that we can exploit from the forests," said K. K. Khailwar, Divisional Forest Officer, Baikunthpur.

The forest region of Chhattisgarh covers nearly 59,772 square kilometres that accounts for about 44 per cent of the total geographical area of the state.

The herbal centre functioning under Baikunthpur Forest Division opens at 8 o'clock in the morning, offering services till 5 p.m.

The nursery of the centre has a huge collection of rare medicinal plants and fruit trees. Its list includes Balraj, Bhojraj, garlic, Nepali coriander, Nepali Satavar, white Moosli, ginger, Bhami, Kaurav, Pandav, Laxmanphal, Ramphal and many more.

The Rangers and other staff of the Forest Department take utmost care of these plants.

For the protection of the medicinal plants, the centre is equipped with all facilities like Aason plant, honey filter plant, a shed for drying, a store for medicines, a training cell and a chemist shop.

Apart from this, the nursery sells various types of Choorna (medicated powder), seeds and plants at affordable rates.

The herbal medicines formulated at this centre are transported to other places like Sarguja, Korba, Bilaspur and Raipur.

The initiative of establishing this herbal centre was undertaken by the centre's medical consultant Dr. Arun Shukla in collaboration with the Divisional Forest Office, Baikunthpur.
