Acupuncture for Respiratory Infections
- According to the World Health Organization, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is the single most important cause of severe lower respiratory tract infection (LRI) in infants and young children.
In TCM children are seen as especially vulnerable to respiratory infections because their organ systems are not yet fully developed. One way of working with children is to use sho-ni-shin, a style of acupuncture that replaces needles with small tools to stimulate acupuncture points and channels. This treatment is painless and very effective. Because children are more sensitive than adults, it often takes fewer treatments to achieve positive results.
Research is accumulating to confirm the success of Chinese medicine in the treatment of respiratory infection. It has shown to be particularly effective when used for asthma, allergies, and sinusitis.
