1 The applying principles of massage

Prevention,Chinese medicine,Traditional Chinese medicine,Chinese herbal,herbal tea,Nature or social or harmonious,principles of massage
Proceeding in a proper order

In general, apply the manipulation of massage from the upper to the lower, from the internal to the external, from the proximal to the distal, from the shoulder to the wrist in the case of massaging upper limbs, from the shoulder to the waist in the case of massaging the hack and from the midline to the two sides in the case of parting-pushing, etc.

Combination of high speed with low speed

When applying the manipulation or changing the manipulation during the treatment, follow the manipulation speed principle of being "low-high-low". For example, apply the pulling and shaking manipulations slowly at the beginning for the patients with inflammation around the shoulder joints. When the soft tissues around the shoulder joints get relaxed, accelerate the manipulation gradually. Then, the manipulation slows down again till the end.

Alternation of the forceful manipulation and mild manipulation

When applying one manipulation or different manipulations, the forceful one is "gang" (forceful) while the mild and swift one is "rou" (mild). The alternation of the forceful manipulation and mild manipulation means that the principle of being "mild-forceful-mild" should be followed in all the selection of many manipulations and the application of one manipulation when massage is used in treatment. For example, swift and mild kneading and pushing manipulations should be applied at the beginning and in the end while forceful kneading, pressing and pulling manipulations are used amidst the process of curing the injury of femoral adductor muscle. The force shifts from mild one to heavy one, then from heavy one to mild one.

As for the commonly-used massage methods and their application, please refer to Chinese Tuina (Massage) of this series of book.
