Differentiating syndrome to decide treatment is one of the basic TCM principles. This principle should be observed during the rehabilitation nursing. One disease may be divided into several syndromes according to its clinical manifestations. Different therapeutic methods and nursing measures should be adopted for different syndromes of one disease. For example, the patients with qi deficiency should be nursed mainly by calm mind and a good rest to avoid overstrain; preserving yin and body fluids should be taken into account in the patients with yin deficiency; strengthening yang and qi should be taken into consideration in the patients with yang deficiency to prevent attack by cold; the patients with qi stagnation should be mainly nursed by regulating emotions, etc. In addition, each person varies from others in the congenital inheritance, postnatal living conditions and surroundings and personal hobbies. Moreover, everybody is different from others in the age, sex, behavior and habits. These individual variations should be specifically dealt with during the rehabilitation nursing.
