Aqua Tai Chi
Aqua Tai Chi is the flowing aquatic energy that we generate in our body when we practice Tai Chi in the swimming pool. The programme is a combination of slow, broad movements of the arms and legs. Beginning with breathing and rejuvenating exercises, we then tone the upper body and arms, and work through the body to the lower parts, ending with coordinated total body movements - a beautiful progression of exercises that promotes balance.
Aqua Tai Chi training is currently being used for:
Pain Management
Prenatal
Post vasectomy
Back pain
Arthritis
Orthopaedic problems
Stroke rehabilitation
Fibromiosis
Thrombosis
The water combined with the body movement creates roundness, continuity and naturalness. The circular feeling brings and creates harmony in our bodies.
A Chinese proverb says "willow does not break under weight of snow".
If our muscles, bones, and connective tissues are stiff, we will break under the weight of the stress that we experience everyday. However, if we are pliant like the willow, we will not break, but we will bend and move with the stresses that occur. Tai Chi is made to create tranquillity and to make us pliant.
The water combined with the flowing movements creates increased range of motion in all of the joints and also overall improved mobility and balance. Aqua Tai Chi is made to create flexibility and pliancy. Flexibility is the essence of youth, and pliant people will look more youthful than those who are stiff. We therefore benefit from the range of motion and mobility that Aqua Tai Chi gives us.
The flowing movement and the relaxation, combined with the breathing increases metabolism and the blood circulation.
Tai Chi therefore works as a moderate aerobic programme.
