Facial health care

1 Massage and acumox

Massage

Cosmetological massage can be divided into two types. The first type refers to the direct massage on the face; the second one means achieving cosmetological effects by massaging the meridians and collaterals that are away from the face. For instance, Peng Zhu's Face-Rubbing Method is the representative method of cosmetological massage. The method is as follows. After getting up in the early morning, rub the ears with both hands. Then, pull the ears gently. Afterwards, rub the scalp and comb the hair with the fingers. Finally, rub the hands against each other to get them warm and rub the face with the warm hands upwards and downwards for 14 times. The method can promote facial blood circulation, make the face lustrous, the hair free from grey hair and prevent cephalic diseases.

Acumox

Seven meridians have good cosmetological effects: the bladder meridian of foot-taiyang, the liver meridian of foot-shaoyin, the liver meridian of foot-jueyin, the stomach meridian of foot-yangming, the triple energizer meridian of hand-shaoyang, the small intestine meridian of hand-taiyang and the large intestine of hand-yangming. These meridians may be selected to form a prescrition for the cosmetic purpose on the basis of syndrome differentiation according to the specific conditions. For instance, the health care of removing and preventing wrinkles may be realized by needling Sizhukong (TE 23), Zanzhu (BL 2), Taiyang (EX - HN 5), Yingxiang (LI 20), Jiache (ST 6) and Yifeng (TE 17); and Zhongwan (CV 12), Hegu (LI 4), Quchi (LI 11), Zusanli (ST 36), Weishu (BL 21), Guanyuan (CV 4) and Lougu (SP 7) may possibly be added to supplement qi, regulate blood, increase skin elasticity, remove and prevent wrinkles. Moxibustion has very marked cosmetic effects, too. The commonly-used acupoints for moxibustion include Shenque (CV 8), Guanyuan (CV4), Qihai (CV 6), Zhongwan (CV 12), Mingmen (GV 4), Dazhui (GV 14), Shenzhu (GV 12), Gaohuang (BL 43), Shenshu (BL 23), Pishu (BL 20), Weishu (BL 21), Zusanli (ST 36), Sanyinjiao (SP 6), Quchi (LI 11) and Xialian (LI 8).
