Malposition of fetus

[Introduction]

Malposition of fetus refers to incorrect position of the fetus 30 weeks after pregnancy. The gravida shows no subjective symptoms and the problem can only be found in the examination. Abnormal fetal position is usually seen in pluripara or gravida with loose abdominal wall. If it is not timely rectified, dystocia will be caused. TCM believes that abnormal fetal position is caused by asthenia of qi and blood, insufficiency of fetal qi or abnormal development of the fetus, weakness of the uterus in contraction or stagna-tion of qi and blood.

[Treatment]

Prescription: Zhiyin (BL 67).

Performance: The clothes are loosened and the gravida sits on a armchair or laying on the bed in a supine position. Zhiyin (BL 67) is moxibusted with moxa-roll for 15 - 20 minutes once or twice a day till the position of the fetus is rectified. The rectification rate is high for those 7 months after pregnancy and low for those 8 months after pregnancy. Sometimes acupuncture or electrical acupunc-ture is used for rectification of fetal position. But most often moxibustion is used.
