2.2.3.1 Cyclical flowing and distribution
The thoroughfare vessel starts from the uterus. One branch runs along with the conception vessel upwards in the spine. Another branch stems from the uterus, passes through perineum and genitals and comes out from Qijie (pathway of qi). The branch running upward runs with the kidney and stomach meridians upward to the abdomen from Qijie, distributes over the chest, reaches the throat and emerges from the upper part of the throat and posterior part of the nose canal. From there it forks sub-branches to link the lips and mouth and other yang meridi-ans over the head and face. The branch running downward moves downward from Qijie along the medial side of the thigh and enters the popliteal fossa. From there it runs in-to the deep layer of the muscles over the medial side of the tibia and forks into two sub-branches posterior to the internal malleolus. One sub-branch combines with the kid-ney meridian and flows into the three yin meridians of the foot, ending at the bottom of the foot. The other sub-branch obliquely enters the internal malleolus, runs deep into the ankle joint, emerges from the dorsum of foot and enters the great toe. (see Fig. 91)
