I've recently been investigating acupuncture as a means to heal physical maladies, and came across some interesting information on hair loss. According to traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) deals with hair loss in several ways:

An old Chinese medical chart
TCM says that hair loss is regulated by the kidneys. Having healthy kidneys will therefore lead to healthy hair growth. To tonify the kidneys' yin or yang, TCM recommends taking the herbs ho shou wu and shu dihuang.
Acupuncture and acupressure points used to treat the kidneys are also targeted for treating hair loss.
TCM recommends rubbing the scalp vigorously with a tincture or oil that contains echinacea root, rosemary, nettles, birch leaves, burdock root and seed, plus essential oils of rosemary, lavender and calamus.
TCM says that eating roasted black sesame seeds is excellent for the kidneys and the hair.
