
Chinese Wushu is well established with a long history. With its rich con-tent and sources, Wushu has been categorized by various approaches based on such orientations as moving characteristics, geographic positions of famous mountains, names of Wushu masters and imitation of animals. According to the forms of action and features, Wushu can be divided into five categories:
(1) Boxing series: including changquan , taijiquan , nanquan, xingyi-quan , baguaquan , tongbiquan , fanziquan , shaolinquan , chaquan , liuhe-quan, piguaquan , tanglangquan , zuiquan , and so on.
(2) Weapons: including long weapons such as stick and spear, short weapons such as sword and saber, double weapons such as double-sword, dou-ble-hook, double-two-head spear, double-dagger, double-whip and double-mace, and soft weapons such as nine-section whip, meteor hammer, rope javelin and three-section stick.
(3) Dual meet: which can be divided into three forms of bare hands vs. bare hands, weapons vs. weapons and bare hands vs. weapons.
(4) Actual combat: such as free sparring, hand pushing (twishou) and fight with long or short weapons.
(5) Teamwork: referring to exercises or performance by six or more peo-ple working together with or without weapons.
