Heart Disease is leading cause of death in people with diabetes
The number one leading cause of death is heart disease. Improper management of diabetes drastically increases your chances of developing heart disease, having a heart attack or stroke.
There are 3 very important things that you can do to reduce your chances of suffering from heart disease, aside from the issue of managing your blood sugar levels every day.

1. Stay active. Research projects prove over and over again that an INactive person has all sorts of health risks. Get up out of your chair, or off the couch and just walk around the block. Start slow by walking every day. You will be amazed at how much benefit you will receive from just a little bit of activity or exercise.
2. Control the amount of fat you eat. Intake of fat has also been long linked to heart disease. Start paying attention to what you are eating. Small changes in your diet can greatly decrease the amount of fat you intake.
3. Control your weight. If you need to lose a few pounds, then make an effort to lose it. If you have problems with maintaining a diet, try cutting down on your portion size and adding a 1 mile walk every day. If you start small, you can move up from there.
