Shuiniujiao Cornu Bubali
The source is from the horn of Bubalus bubatis L., family Bovidae. The medicinal material is mainly produced in the areas of South and East China. The buffalo horn is soaked in warm water, dredged up, cut into pieces and then dried in the sun.
Medicinal Properties Salty in flavor, cold in nature and attributive to the heart, liver and stomach meridians.
Actions Clear away heat and relieve toxin, and cool the blood.
Application
1. For seasonal febrile diseases involving yingfen and Xuefen with fever, restlessness, coma, delirium, crimson tongue or with eruptions and macules, it is usually combined with Shengdihuang ( Radix Rehmanniae ), Xuanshen ( Radix Scrophulariae ), Jinyinhua ( Flos Lonicerae), and Lianqiao ( Fructus Forsythiae), etc.; for seasonal febrile diseases with high fever and convulsion, used together with Lingyangjiao ( Cornu Saigae Tataricae ) , Gouteng ( Ramulms Uncariae cum Uncis ), etc. to clear away heat to stop wind.
2. For blood-heat syndrome with bleeding, it is usually used together with Shengdihuang (Radix Rehmanniae), Mudanpi ( Cortex Moutan Radicis ), Chishaoyao (Radix Paeoniae Rubra ) , etc..
Usage and Dosage 15 -30 g is used in decoction for oral use, pounded into pieces and then decocted first, or pounded into powder for taking after it is mixed with water.
