Guanzhong Rhizoma Dryopteris Crassirhizomae
The source is from rhizome with petiole base of Dryopteris crassirhizoma Nakai, family Dryopteridaceae and Blechnum orientale L., family Blechnaceae. The medicinal material is mainly produced in the provinces of Liaoning, Jilin, and Heilongjiang, etc., collected in autumn, dried in the sun. The crude is cut into pieces for being used or the carbonized one is used.
Medicinal Properties Bitter in flavor, slightly cold in nature, small toxic and attributive to the liver and spleen meridians.
Actions Clear away heat and eliminate toxin, kill worms, cool the blood and arrest bleeding.
Application
1. It is indicated for cold due to wind-heat, seasonal febrile diseases with maculae and papules, carbuncle of heat type and mumps. It is usually combined with Jinyinhua (Flos Lonicerae ) , Lianqiao ( Fruclus Forsythiae ), Daqingye ( Folium Isatidis ), and Pugongying ( Herba Taraxaci), etc.. It is now used for influenza, measles, mumps, and encephalitis B. etc..
2. It is indicated for many kinds of intestinal parasitosis such as tapeworm, hook worm and roundworm. For killing typeworm and hook worm, it is usually combined with Binglang ( Semen Arecae ); for treatment of roundworms with abdominal pain, usually combined with Shijunzi ( Fructus Quisqualis ), Kuliangenpi ( Cortex Meliae Radicis), etc. ; for pinworm, it can be decocted alone for washing the round of anus before sleeping.
3. It is indicated for bleeding such as haematemesis, epistaxis, hemafecia, metrorrhagia, and especially for profuse uterine bleeding, being more effective in treatment of blood-heat syndrome. It can be used alone and also combined with Cebaiye ( Cacumen Biotae), Baimaogen (Rhizoma Imperatae) and others that can cool the blood and arrest bleeding.
Usage and Dosage 10 -15 g is used in decoction for oral use, the crude is suitable for killing worms and clearing away heat and eliminate toxin and the charred one for arresting bleeding.
