Globus hystericus refers to abnormal sensation in the throat as if a plum pit or sputum stuck in the throat. How-ever, examination of the throat finds no abnormal chan-ges. It is similar to pharyngeal neurosis or globus hysteri-cus in modern medicine. This problem is usually caused by mental depression, failure of the liver qi to disperse and convey, unsmooth flow of qi and abnormal distribution of body fluid turning into phlegm that stucks in the throat.

Treatment
Prescription: Neiguan (PC 6 ), Tanzhong (CV 17), Fenglong (ST 40) and Sanyinjiao (SP 6).
Performance: For evident abnormal sensation in the throat, Tiantu (CV 22) is added; for mental depression and migratory pain in the chest and rib-side, Shenmen (HT 7) and Taichong (LR 3) are added; for anorexia and unsmooth defecation, Zusanli (ST 36) is added.
Performance: Mild reinforcing and reducing needling techniques are used. Tiantu (CV 22) is needled 0.2 cun vertically first, then the point of the needle is turned downward and slowly inserted 0.5 1 cun along the poste-rior border of the sternum. Tanzhong (CV 17) is needled horizontally 0.5 cun downward.
Prescription: Ear Shenmen ( TF4 ), Subcortex (AT4), Heart (CO1).
Performance: Wangbuliuxingzi (Semen Vaccariae) is used for ear pressure. The acupoints are pressed twice or 3 times a day.
