Qigong Exercises in the Twelfth Month
The twelfth lunar month of the year belongs to chou, second in the twelve earthly branches, and in addition corresponds to the Spleen Channel of Foot-Taiyin in the jingluo system and lin in the sixty-four hexagrams. What you have to bear in mind in this month is that qi arises at 9 p.m. and you' d better face northwest in practice, and that with heaven and earth closed yang goes into hiding and yin exerts its influence so that everything hides itself and you can avoid cold and remain warm. Be sure to stay away from pathogenic wind-cold and keep your muscles and bones unhurt.

(1) Xiaohan (Slight Cold)

The time between 11 p.m. and 3 a.m. every day in this month is good for the following exercise. Sit upright with legs crossed. Raise left arm and place right palm on bed, eyes looking up to the left. Return to the starting position and repeat the raising movement 15 times on each side. Then, with body remaining upright, click teeth and inhale and exhale be-fore swallowing saliva.

This Qigong exercise is good for vomiting, abdominal distention, anorexia, dysphoria, difficult urination and defecation, dry mouth, the yellow dis-coloration of .the sclera, listlessness and drowsiness.

2) Dahan (Great Cold)

The time between 11 p.m. and 3 a.m. every day in this month is also good for the following exercise. Sit on left foot with palms touching bed behind back. Extend right leg as forward as possible. Return to the starting position and repeat the extending movement 15 times on each side. Then, sitting upright with legs crossed, click teeth and inhale and exhale before swallowing saliva.

This Qigong exercise is effective for stagnancy of qi in the channels, stiffnes of body, pain at the base of tongue, granuloma in the thigh and knee, pain in the instep, abdominal distention, bowel sound and indigestion.
