They can remove pathogenic wind-damp from the muscles, channels and collaterals, tendons and bones, and joints. Some of them also separately have the actions of relieving pain, relaxing and activating the tendons, invigorating the liver and kidney and strengthening tendons and bones. They are indicated for wind-damp Bi-syndrome, painful tendons and bones, stiffness of tendons and muscles, soreness and flaccidity of lumbus and knees, flaccidity and weakness of lower limbs, numbness or hemiplegia, etc..
Bi-syndrome is distinctive in overabundance of wind, damp, cold or heat, affected location or the course of disease, therefore, when they are used, they should be selected and combined with other relative medicinal herbs according to different symptoms and signs so as to achieve responding effects. If the syndromes are accompied with superficial syndrome, diaphoretics must be combined; if blood stasis is in the body, blood activating ones should be combined; if the wind and dampness are predominant, channels warming ones must be combined; if the heat is predominant, heat clearing ones must be combined; if the syndromes are with deficiency of qi and blood, qi and blood tonifying ones should be combined.
If Bi-syndrome lasts a long period, a formula pre-pared into medicinal wine or pill would be more suitable.
