Basic Requiremenis for Practice-Jing
Jing (stillness) is important in qigong and entering a state of jing (stillness) is a special method to protect your body and mind against exter-nal disturbances and avoid unnecessary losses of energy so that your cranial nerves can take a full rest and have a good mechanism for conserving ener-gy"

Qi should be accumulated and circulated in a state of ring (stillness). In addition, ring (stillness) can help you know more about the law of dong within your body and of your surroundings, and after getting rid of barriers to perception you will have a deeper understanding of the world. It is for this reason that various styles of qigong regard ring (stillness) as the only method to lay foundation for progress in qigong practice. As a saying goes in qigong books, "Jing (stillness) can make the internal structure of your body so compact and solid that you will be able to protect yourself against pathogenic wind. "

By laying emphasis on ring (stillness), we are not denying the need for dong. Jing ( stillness )-induced dong is considered to be of a high grade, one dong that never ceases in the body. The coordination of jing (stillness) and dong is just the time for the balance of yin and yang.
