The sitz bath can be taken in a regular bathtub, or while sitting on the toilet with a special sitz bath device. Another popular symptom-relieving hemorrhoid treatment is the use of external creams: Vaseline (or other petroleum jellies), Preparation-H (or other hemorrhoid cream), or any of a number of topical cortisone creams.ligation, and the hemorrhoidectomy. While the best hemorrhoid treatment is inarguably prevention, there are many things available to help the hemorrhoid sufferer.
External hemorrhoids occur outside the rectum, around the anus. Basically, all swellings or protruding masses at or near the anal opening are considered to be external hemorrhoids (except in the case of prolapsed internal hemorrhoids, which originate internally but can protrude externally as they worsen).
External hemorrhoids (piles) are caused when the veins of the anus swell from too much pressure. Treatment for mild cases of external hemorrhoids includes warm baths (sitz baths), ice packs, topical ointments, suppositories, seat cushions, moist cloths and loose underwear. More serious external hemorrhoids that cannot be eradicated with one of the previously-mentioned treatments require one of three surgical procedures: laser coagulation (the hemorrhoid is clotted with an electric probe which makes it shrink), infrared photocoagulation (the hemorrhoid is clotted with infrared light to make it shrinks) or hemorrhoidectomy (complete removal of the hemorrhoid).
