    Treatment of White Hair-Method I

    I
t is a saying in traditional Chinese medicine that hair is the odds and ends of blood. In other words, hair is nourished by blood.
In the Kin Dynasty, Zhang Zihe ( 1156-1228) in his Ru Men Shi Qing (Confucians" Duties to Their Parents) said: "If a young man is grey-headed, has lost his hair or has a lot of dandruff, there is excess heat in the blood." In the Ming Dynasty, Li Chan in Yi Xue Ru Men (Elementary Medicine) (1575) made further explanations: Exuberant blood flow nourishes the hair, making it moist and lustrous, whereas an insufficient blood supply withers it. Heat in the blood causes the hair to become yellowish, and further derangement of the blood gives rise to whitening of the hair.
Since grey-headedness has a close relationship with blood, is there any way to turn white hair into black? Yes; as recorded in traditional literature, Daoyin (physical and breathing exercise), which promotes the circulation of qi and blood, is beneficial for this condition. The following methods are recommended.
Method I, described in Zhou Lujing's Xiao Yao Zi Dao Yin Jue (Formula for Physical and Breathing Exercise), written in the early 17th century.
Instructions: Perform the exercise twice a day, at 1 A.M. and 12 noons. Sit upright with the hands holding each other (see Fig. 1). Concentrate and empty your mind of all distractions. Look at your own vertex in your mind's eye, and you will feel naturally the qi of Yin and Yang running along the spine from the sacrum up to the vertex, down to the ridge of the nose, chin and throat, and along the anterior midline of the chest and abdomen to Dantian -- 3 cun below the umbilicus. After nine circulations of qi, you will be full of vigour. Consistent practice may turn the whitened hair to black again.
