Pathological Pulse Manifestations In China's Tibetan Medicine

Pathological pulse manifestations
Pulse manifestations vary according to different disorders, which is very helpful to the diagnosis of diseases.
There are over 20 kinds of pathological pulse manifestations in Tibetan medicine, including floating, sunken, full, fine,

large, small, slippery, puckering, solid, void, retarded, rapid, mild, tense, weak, rough, hard, soft, fiat, slow and

intermittent. A sick patient normally reveals one kind of abnormal pulse, but sometimes two or more abnormal pulses may

appear. Important pathological pulse manifestations include:

Rlung disorders: floating, rough, large and void, occasionally intermittent pulse.
Mkhris pa disorders: fine and tense pulse.
Badkan disorders: sunken and weak pulse.

When mixed disorders appear, the pulse manifestations may be complex, rlung and fever diseases may have a void and rapid

pulse; mixed badkan and mkhris pa diseases may reveal a sunken, tense pulse; while mixed rlung and badkan, are indicated by

a void and retarded pulse.

Purple badkan diseases: rough, strong, full, solid pulse.
Blood disorders: slippery, high and prominent pulse.
Yellow fluid: puckering with wild tremor pulse.
Worm diseases: fiat and plain, when palpated with pressure, the pulse deviated to both sides.
Leprosy: puckering and sometimes tremulous pulse.
Chaotic fever: rough, floating and solid, sometimes slippery.
Diffusive injury fever: fine, tense and hard
Epidemic fever: fine and rapid.
Leprotic fever: fiat, alternate strong and weak, sometimes void.
Acute pain: short and rapid like a fluttering flag.
Toxicity: fine and rapid, sometimes rough, alternate strong and weak.
Meat toxicity: slender and rapid, sunken and fiat.
Immature heat: fine and rapid, like a fluttering flag.
Exuberant fever: full, large and tense.
Old fever: slender and tense.

Void fever: void but rapid.
Hidden fever: sunken and tense.
Turbid fever: sunken, slender and rapid.
Fever due to ulcers: rough and full, rapid and solid.
Dyspepsia: large and solid.
Tumors and lumps: weak and slender, very feeble.
Edema: sunken and slender, becoming tense after pressure.
Trauma: slender, rapid and tremor pulse showing the formation of pus.
