Locations For Bloodletting In Tibetan Medicine
The sites for bloodletting in traditional Tibetan medicine are fixed. Based on Rgyud bzhi, there are altogether 77 locations, among which, 21 are located in the head and neck, 34 in the upper extremities, 18 in the lower extremities and four in the trunk.

Locating points in the head and neck: From the Yintang point at the mid point of the line between the eyebrows, draw a line upward to the vertex and further to the mid-occiput; draw a line connecting the highest point of the two auricles through the vertex, the crossing point of the two lines being the Baihui;four-finger breadth from the midpoint of the anterior hair line is the fontanel;the Bimai (nose vessel) is at the center of the nose tip; the Xiongmai (chest vessel) is at the midpoint of the trachea, below the Adam's apple. All the above are single bloodletting points, three in number, i.e. the Waishu point, one cun behind the auricle; Neishu, one cun in front of the auricle; Zhenbianmai (lateral occiput vessel) is one cun above the temporal; Zhengumai (occiput vessel), one cun lateral to the occiput fossa, three-finger breadth above. The Jinjimai (gold axe vessel) and Yinjimai (silver axe vessel) are located at the right upper midpoint, and left upper midpoint respectively. The above are all bilateral points, 10 in total. The Shemai (tongue vessel) is beneath the tongue; the Yanmai (eye vessel) is at the tip of eyebrows; the Chimai (dental vessels) is at the running course of a pulsated vessel, a line from the cheek to the hairline; the Xiaojianmai (petit sharp vessel) is a location four-finger breath upward from the lower neck one cun and one-finger breadth lateral to the trachea. It moves upward when the auricle is pulled upward. The above are all bilateral points, eight in total. There are altogether 21 points in the neck-head region.

Locations of points in the upper extremities: the arm-vessel point is located at the medial aspect and above the elbow fossa, and a finger breadth below the is shoulder joint. The "Norga" vessel is located in the medial aspect of elbow fossa, running obliquely upward; Liutou (six-head) is a vessel running from the arm-vessel downward, situated at the midline. The compound lung-heart vessel runs from the elbow fossa downward to the lateral aspect of the wrist. The "Rutong" vessel from the medial of the elbow fossa obliquely.toward the back of the thumb, and then towards the little finger. Its poim for bloodletting is located four-finger breadth below the elbow fossa. Feiganhemai,(compound lung liver vessel) is three-finger breadth below the line of.
