This is a pyogenic infection of the lungs with cough, chest fever and spitting of foul sputum with pus and blood. At the early stage, the patient may suffer from the body chilis, fever, cough with scanty sticky sputum, chest pain and dyspnea; at the formation stage of the abscess, the patient may suffer from high body fever, sweating, chills, chest pain and spitting of foul purulent sputum; and at the rupture stage of the abscess, the patient may spit foul sputum with pus and blood, and suffer from chest distress, asthma, orthopnea, high body temperature and flushing of the face.

This disease is correspondent to lung abscess, suppurative pneumonia, pulmonary gangrene and bronchiectasis with infection in Western medicine.

Recipe 1: Pumpkin 500 gm and beef 250 gm.
Administration: The beef and pumpkin are cooked without salt and oil for oral intake several times, and then the Liuwei Dihuang Tang (six ingredient rehmannia decoction) is orally administered for 5-6 days.
Indication: This recipe is used to treat lung abscess at the rupture stage. Greasy food should be avoided during the therapeutic period while using this recipe.

Recipe 2: Seeds of white gourd 60 gm, Yiyiren (Job's tears) 30 gm, Jiegen (balloonflower root) 15 gm, agaric 5 gm, a piece of fresh lotus root and an adequate amount of crystal sugar.

Recipe 3: Almond paste 10 gin, Jinyinhua (honey suckle flower) 10 gm, chrysanthemum 10 grn and honey 30 gm.
Administration: The first 3 herbs are boiled to prepare a tea for repeated drinking after being mixed with honey.
Indication: This recipe can expel wind pathogens, clear heat and eliminate poison to treat a lung abscess at the early stage.

Recipe 4: Almond paste 10 gm, Sangye (mulberry leaf) 10 gin, chrysanthemum 10 gm and an adequate amount of cane sugar.
Administration: The above herbs are boiled to prepare a tea for constant drinking.
Indication: This recipe is used to treat a lung abscess at the early stage.

Recipe 5: Peach kernel 10-15 gm and rice 50-100 gm.
Administration: The peach kernels are ground with water, and after removal of the dregs the peach kernel suspension is used to cook a gruel with rice for oral intake.
Indication: This recipe can release blood stasis to treat a lung abscess at the formation or rupture stage. Sometimes white gourd seeds are added to prepare the rice gruel.

Recipe 6: Agaric 5 gm, red date 5 pieces, rice 100-150 gm and an adequate amount of crystal sugar.
Administration: The clean agaric in small pieces, dates and rice are boiled on a strong fire changed to a slow fire to prepare a gruel for oral intake after being mixed with crystal sugar.
Indication: This recipe is used to treat a lung abscess after rupture.
