This is an acute abdominal disease with colic pain and cold limbs caused by entry of ascaris into the biliary tract. It is common in both children and adults in the countryside.

It can be divided into 2 types: Patients of Qi stagnation type may suffer from paroxysmal attacks of severe colic pain in the upper abdomen and flanks, with preference for pressure applied to the abdomen and complete relief of symptoms after stoppage of colic pain, cold limbs, sweating, poor appetite, nausea and vomiting; and patients of damp-heat type may suffer from similar abdominal pain to Qi stagnation type, fever or fluctuation of chills and fever, bitter taste and dryness in the mouth and throat, thirst without desire to drink, jaundice of the eyes and body, yellow urine, constipation, local tenderness and aversion to pressure, and presence of mass in the abdomen.

Recipe 1: Cucumber vine 100 g, black pepper 8 g, chicken gallbladder and vinegar 100 g.
Administration: A decoction of the first 2 herbs is boiled with vinegar for oral intake with chicken bile, twice a day for 2-3 days.
Indication: This recipe can clear heat, resolve dampness, promote discharge of bile and stop pain, to treat the biliary ascariasis of damp-heat type.

Recipe 2: Ten dark plums and prickly ash 6 g.
Administration: A decoction of the above herbs is drunk twice a day for 2-3 days.
Indication: This recipe is used to treat biliary ascariasis of Qi stagnation type.

Recipe 3: Ten dark plums, Pugongying (dandelion) 50 g (or 60-100 g of the fresh plant), rice 50-100 g and an adequate amount of cane sugar.
Administration: The Pugongying is washed clean, cut into pieces and boiled with plums to prepare a decoction, and then used to make a gruel with rice and sugar for oral intake, twice a day for 3-5 days as a therapeutic course.
Indication: The rice gruel is used to treat biliary ascariasis of damp-heat type.

Recipe 4: Yiyiren (Job's tears) 30 g, Cheqiancao (common plantain) 15 g, vinegar 100 g and an adequate amount of sugar.
Administration: A decoction of Cheqiancao is used to cook a rice soup with the other materials in the above recipe for oral intake, twice a day for 3 days.
Indication: This recipe is used to treat biliary ascariasis of damp-heat type.
