TCM Treat Loehiorrhea

After delivery of a baby, the discharge of lochia should stop in about 3 weeks; otherwise, the condition is known as lochiorrhea. It can be divided into 3 types: Patients with lochiorrhea due to deficiency of Qi may suffer from prolonged profuse discharge of pale and thin lochia without foul smell, an empty sensation and straining in the lower abdomen, mental tiredness and no desire to talk; patients with lochiorrhea due to heat pathogens in the blood may suffer from prolonged profuse discharge of dark, sticky and foul lochia, red face and dryness in the mouth; and patients with lochiorrhea due to blood stasis may suffer from dripping of scanty purple lochia with clots and pain in the lower abdomen with aversion to palpation.

Recipe 1: An adequate amount of skin of white gourd and red beans.
Administration: After being slightly fried, the above materials are boiled in water to make a tea for drinking.
Indication: This tea can clear heat, eliminate poison, enrich Yin and stop bleeding to treat lochiorrhea due to heat pathogens in the blood.

Recipe 2: One hundred haws and a small amount of sugar.
Administration: The haws are pounded and boiled in water with the sugar to prepare a warm decoction for drinking before meals.
Indication: This decoction is used to treat lochiorrhea due to blood stasis.

Recipe 3: Fresh haws 50 g, Yimucao (Chinese motherwort) 50 g and sugar 100 g.
Administration: The haws, with the pits removed, are cut into slices and boiled with Yimucao in 500 ml of water to produce a decoction of 400 ml, which is further boiled with sugar to prepare a paste for oral intake of 20 ml, twice a day.
Indication: This recipe is used to treat lochiorrhea due to blood stasis, but it should be administered with care to patients with blood deficiency.

Recipe 4: Haw 15 g, Yiyiren (Job's tears) 30 g, Cheqiancao (common plantain) 9 g and an adequate amount of brown sugar.
Administration: A decoction of the above materials is drunk once a day for 4-5 days.
Indication: This recipe is used to treat lochiorrhea due to heat pathogens in the blood.
