Big cities are so material. Every activity requires money and usually quite a bit of it.
Rural areas push people to appreciate their surroundings and find activities that require more than tossing currency at a cashier.
There is nothing more aesthetically pleasing than nature's architecture at its best. In the city the scenery is so redundant. It's just building after building after building.
How many different shapes can cement be molded into before it ceases to amaze?
China is one of the oldest civilizations, boasting a 5,000-year history, hut skyscrapers, shopping centers and subways have only been around in the last hundred years.
Seeing the 'real' China means seeing the people who have been living their lifestyle for hundreds of years. They know how it's done.
Whether it's for a vacation or residency - going rural is relaxing. There are not horns beeping or drills drilling at three in the morning. You are not constantly battling back crowds or waiting in lines.
Traffic jams in rural areas are virtually unheard of. And in big cities you ultimately end up becoming just another face in the crowd. Give me the calm countryside any day.
