Main symptoms and signs: Palpitation, restlessness worsened by moving, chest distress, short breath, dizziness, hypodynamia, dysphoria with fever, poor sleep, spontaneous sweating, night sweat, pale and enlarged tongue with a little or no fur, thready and rapid or knotted pulse.

Therapeutic methods: Supplementing qi, nourishing yin and calming the mind.
Prescription and drugs: The prescription used is the modified Zhigancao Decoction (Decoction of Prepared Radix Glycyrrhizae) in combination with Shengmai Powder (Pulsation-promoting Powder) composed of 10 g of Zhigancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae Praeparata ), 8 g of Renshen (Radix Ginseng), 8 g of Shengdihuang (Radix Rehmanniae), 6 g of Guizhi (Ramulus Cinnamomi), 8 g of Ejiao (Colla Corii Asini) (melted), 10 g of Maimendong (Radix Ophiopogonis), 6 g of Wuweizi (Fructus Schisandrae), 10 g of Baiziren (Semen Biotae) and 10 g of Suanzaoren ( Semen Ziziphi Spinosae).

Modification: For the patients with moderate pulse, 6 g of Fuzi (Radix Aconiti Praeparata) (to be decocted first) is added; for the patients with constipation, 10 g of Huomaren (Fructus Cannabis), 10 g of Sangshen (Fructus Mori) and 10 g of Gualouren ( Semen Trichosanthis) are included; for the patients with dysphoria and feverish chest, palms and soles, Guizhi (Ramulus Cinnamomi) is removed, 10 g of Yuzhu (Rhizoma Polygonati Odorati), 10 g of Baiwei (Radix Cynanchi Atrati) and 10 g of Baishaoyao (Radix Paeoniae Alba) are added; for the patients with palpitation, 8 g of Gansong (Rhizoma Nardostachydis) and 6 g of Kushen (Radix Sophorae Flavescentis) are included.
