1. Excessive Fire Due To Yin Deficiency
Main symptoms and signs: Palpitation, dysphoria with restlessness, insomnia with dream-disturbed sleep, dizziness, night sweat, dry mouth with the desire for drinking, red tongue with a little fur, thready and rapid pulse.

Therapeutic methods: Nourishing yin to eliminate fire, nourishing the heart and tranquilzing the mind.

Proscription and drugs: The prescription used is the modified Tianwang Buxin Pill (Cardiotonic Pill) composed of 10 g of Shengdihuang (Radix Rehmanniae),
10 g of Xuanshen (Radix Scrophulariae), 10 g of Tianmendong (Radix Asparagi), 10 g of Maimendong (Radix Ophiopogonis), 10 g of Danggui (Radix Angelicae Sinensis) , 10 g of Danshen (Radix Salviae Miltiorrhizea), 6 g of Yuanzhi (Radix Polygalae), 10 g of Fushen (Poria cum Ligno Hospite) , 10 g of Suanzaoren (Semen Ziziphi Spinosae), 10 g of Baiziren (Semen Biotae), 10 g of Baishaoyao (Radix Paeoniae Alba) and 6 g of Wuweizi (Fructus Schisandrae) .

Modification: For the patients with dry mouth, 10 g of Tianhuafen (Radix Trichosanthis) and 10 g of Lugen (Rhizoma Phragmitis) are added; for the patients with hectic fever and night sweat, 8 g of Qinghao (Herba Artemisiae) and 10 g of Digupi (Cortex Lycii Radicis) are included.

2. Deficiency Of Heart Yang
Main symptoms and signs: Palpitation with restlessness worsened by moving, chest distress, short breath, cold body and limbs, pale complexion, spontaneous sweat, profuse and thin urine, poor appetite, loose stools, pale tongue with whitish fur, deep and thready or knotted and intermittent pulse.

Therapeutic methods: Warming yang and supplementing qi, and tranquilizing the mind.
Prescription and drugs: The prescription used is the modified Shenfu Decoction (Decoction of Ginseng and Prepared Aconite) in combination with Guizhi Longgu Mu-li Decoction composed of 10 g of Renshen (Radix Ginseng), 6 g of Fuzi (Radix Aconiti Praeparata) (to be decocted first), 6 g of Guizhi (Ramulus Cinnamomi),15 g of Longgu (Os Draconis Fossilia) (to be decocted first), 15 g of Mull (Concha Ostreae) (to be decocted first), 12 g of Baishaoyao (Radix Paeoniae Alba), 6 g of Gancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae), 10 g of Fuling (Poria) and 8 g of Baizhu (Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae).

Modification: For the patients with edema of lower limbs, 8 g of Cheqianzi (Semen Plantaginis), 8 g of Zexie (Rhizoma Alismatis) and 8 g of Zhuling (Polygorus Umbellatus) are added; for the patients with dizziness, nausea and vomiting, 3 g of Chenpi (Pericarpium Cirri Reticulatae) and 8 g of Banxia (Rhizoma Pinelliae) are included.
