Acute Glomerulonephritis

Main symptoms and signs: Sudden onset, edema of limbs after edema of eyelids, lustrous skin with good elasticity, dark and scanty urine or hematuria with accompanying fever, aversion to wind, cough, whitish and thin fur, floating and tight or floating and rapid pulse.

Therapeutic methods: Dispelling wind and inducing diuresis.
Proscription and drugs: The prescription used is the modified Mahuang Lianyao Chixiaodou Decoction comoosed of 3 g of Mahuang (Herba Ephedrae), 10 got Lianqiao (Fructus Forsythiae), 15 g of Chixiaodou (Semen Phaseoli), 8 g of Xingren (Semen Armeniacae Amarum), 10 g of Sangbaipi (Cortex Mori Radicis), 10 g of Cheqianzi (Semen Plantaginis) (to be wrapped) and 3 g of Gancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae).

Modification: For the patients with exterior cold, 10 g of Qianghuo (Rhizoma seu Radix Notopterygii) and 6 g of Fangfeng (Radix Ledebouriellae) are added; for the patients with fever, aversion to wind and headache, 10 g of Jinyinhua (Flos Lonicerae) and 6 g of Bohe (Herba Menthae) (to be decocted later) are included; for the patients with dysphoria and thirst, 20 g of Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum) (to be decocted first) is added; for the patients with severe cough and asthma, 10 g of Qianhu (Radix Peucedani) and 6 g of Tinglizi (Semen Lepidiiseu Descurainiae) are included; for the patients with severe edema, 10 g of Baizhu (Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae), 10 g of Zhuling (Polygorus Umbellatus ) and 3 g of Tongcao (Tetrapanacis) are added; for the patients with marked hematuria, 10 g of Xiaoji (Herba Cephalanoploris) and 10 g of Baimaogen (Rhizoma Imperatae) are added.
