Therapeutic methods: Expelling the exterior pathogenic factors with pungent drugs and clearing the interior heat with bitter drugs so as to remove filth and toxin.

Prescription and drugs: The prescription used is the modified Wendan Decoction (Gallbladder-warming Decoction) in combination with Fuzi Xiexin Decoction (Aconite Decoction for Purging the Heart Heat) composed of 3 g of Chenpi (Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae), 10 g of Jiangbanxia (Ginger juice-prepared Rhizoma Pinelliae), 10 g of Fuling (Poria), 8 g of Zhuru (Caulis Barnbusae in Taeniam), 6 g of Zhishi (Fructus Aurantii),3 g of Zhifuzi (RadixAconiti Praeparata) (to be decocted first), 6 g of Ganjiang (Rhizoma Zingiberis), 10 g of Huangqin (Radix Scutellariae), 3 g of Huanglian (Rhizoma Coptidis), 5 g of Dahuang (Radix et Rhizoma Rhei) (to be decocted later) and 10 g of Cheqianzi (Semen Plantaginis) (to be wrapped).

Modification: If the patient cannot take the decoction, boil the decoction until it is condensed to 100 to 200ml for the use of retention enteroclysis, 1 to 2 doses a day. For the patients with frequent vomiting, Yushu Pill is taken first; for the patients with unconsciousness, Stotax Pill is added. For the patients with scanty urine, anuria, or nasal bleeding, skin purpura and deep red tongue tip in severe cases, the therapeutic methods of clearing away heat from yingfen to cool blood and clearing away heat and removing toxin, are applied.

The drugs used in-clude 15 g of Shuiniujiaopian (slices of Cornu Bubali) (to be decocted first), 10 g of Shengdihuang (Radix Rehmanniae), 10 g of Chishaoyao (Radix Paeoniae Rubra), 10 g of Jinyinhua (Flos Lonicerae), 10 g of Lianqiao (Fructus Forsythiae), 15 g of Banlangen (Radix Isatidis), 10 g of Xianhecao (Herba Agrimoniae), 10 g of Zhizi (Fructus Gardenia), and 6 g of Zhimu (Rhizoma Anemarrhenae) which are used to clear away heat from yingfen to cool blood and remove toxin.

For the patients with convulsive syncope, Zixue Pill is added to clear away heat, relieve convulsion and induce resuscitation; 5 g of Fuzi (Radix Aconiti Praeparata), 10 g of Dahuang (Radix et Rhizoma Rhei), 15 g of Mull (Concha Ostreae) and 15 g of Baitouweng (Radix Pulsatillae) may also be used for enteroclysis.
