Generally, the medicine obtained by the method of total pulverization should be sieved and stirred. When there are ingredients that should be pulverized separately, the mixing process is needed. The process is done manually or mechanically through stirring and sieving so that the powder color becomes homogeneous. For those ingredients that are valuable, toxic or with preserved color, a doubling grinding method is used, namely, adding an equal amount of other fine powdered medicines and mixing them evenly until the color is homogeneous.

The above process of pulverization can also be used in powders for making pills or bolus.
If needed, a coloring agent, diluting agent or a masking agent can be added to the powder. However, their quality should be in line with the standard of pharmacopoeia or local standard requirements.

Ophthalmic powder and some local use powder should be compounded under aseptic condition to prevent disease contamination. Powder medicines should be tightly covered for storage except where otherwise indicated.

Appearance: It should be dry, loose and homogeneous without lumps. Samples of the same batch should have the same appearance.
Homogeneity: When the powder is put on a thick and smooth paper and pressed with a small instrument, the color and texture

Particle size: For oral powder, it should pass through a 100-mesh sieve, while that for cooking powder should pass through a 180-mesh sieve.
