Outside the red walls of the Baoguo Temple, tall dark trees on two sides shade out the sunlight and keep out the fierce summer heat.

The Baoguo Temple is the entrance to Mount Emei. It was first built by the Taoist Ming Guang. Its original name was the Hui Zong Hall, meaning the hall where Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism come together. They can all regard the majestic Emei as their common spiritual home, where they fuse as one. Visitors could not but extol its "greatness."
What you see of the mountain ultimately depends upon how you decide to go up it.
In the past, there was no choice. Whatever great mountain you climbed, you had to go up every step for yourself. Even the Tang Emperor Taizong himself, the ruler of a mighty land, took several days to get to the summit on foot. Today, visitors can drive, take a cable car or walk.
Walking from the Wannian Temple to the Qingyin Pavilion, you feel as if you were in a pure and empty world. Gently-flowing brooks on two sides, and two small bridges connect at this meeting place. Emei is so huge that even just this section of it seems to encompass a universe. The bird sing, breezes waft, springs gush and leaves fall. Their beauty is so simple that words can hardly describe them.
The Qingyin Pavilion means the pavilion of gentle singing and is a quote from a poem by the Jin Dynasty(1115-1234)poet Zuo Si: "Why use string and wind instruments when there is gentle music from the mountains and waters?" Indeed the terms high peak, flowing water, empty valley and serene mist can all be used to describe this place. In a pure, exquisite world, why play an ancient zither!
In fact, as long as you are at Emei, you are immersed in an atmosphere of harmony. Both the works of nature and of man can reach magnificence. And the two are so inseparable so that you can appreciate their beauty from many angles. When we reached the Golden Summit, we saw a big piece of fiat ground, like a huge rock had landed from elsewhere and embedded itself into the mountaintop. Its 3,000-meter height is just right. At the bottom of the mountain, we were in short-sleeves, but here at the top, we wrapped up in warm outerwear. But Emei pierces through the clouds and mist just like this, greeting winter and summer like this. No wonder that it too aspires to the status of "Number One mountain under the sun." This preeminence lies in its great abundance of natural sights and cultural legacy.
Below the Sheshen Rock was a sea of heavy clouds. In the far distance, glowing streaks emerged£¬changing hues, as the red sun thrust out to rend apart the dark mass of clouds. The cloud sea quickly turned dark blue. As the sun rose, the feeling of heaviness gradually lifted, and the sea of clouds changed back to proper clouds.
In fact, this process is repeated every day, but for those witnessing the sunrise on the Golden Summit, it must be the most beautiful.
The significance of the Golden Summit to Emei is like the perfect happy ending to a story. At this moment, Emei is just like a benevolent and kind-hearted old man, at peace with himself and with the world. Azaleas, monkeys and tourists, they can all find happiness on the mountain. In fact, however you get to the top, you will always see the beauty and greatness of Emei!
