Typical Theory Of Chinese Minority Medicine
Among the types of Chinese minority medicine, the theoretical systems of Tibetan, Mongolian, Uygur and Dai ethnic groups are considered more advanced than others.

Medical Theory of Tibetan Medicine
Tibetan medicine is rich and systemic with a long history. It is a perfect medical system just like that of the Han ethnic group.

Basic theory
Like traditional Chinese medicine the basic theory of Tibetan medicine shows the plain, materialistic view of the originating ethnic group. Tibetan medicine believes that the universe is composed of five small elements (gold, wood, water, fire and soil) and five big elements (Qi, fire, soil, water and space). The five small elements correspond to the heart, liver, spleen, lung and kidney respectively while the five big elements are those forming the whole universe. Qi, fire, and water and soil are the major elements constituting the human body. Any strong or weak element may cause disease. Distinguished achievements of Tibetan medicine have been made in a variety of subjective fields based on these basic theories three major elements, seven major substances of human body, and three kinds of excrement.

Three major elements (factors)
The theory of Tibetan medicine believes that there are three major elements (Qi, fire, water and soil), seven major substances (food nutrition, blood, flesh, fat, bone, marrow and energy) and three kinds of excrement (urine, feces and sweat) existing in the human body. The three major elements control movement and changes in the seven major substances and the three kinds of excrement. Under normal physiological conditions, the three factors are mutually dependent and restrictive in maintaining a harmonious and baianced state. When one or more factors show excessive strength or weakness for some reason, pathological symptoms will appear as diseases related to the elements described above. The three factors need adjustment through prescribed therapy to restore them to a harmonious state.

One element, the power of the physiological activity of human body, is close in nature to"feng" or "Qi" of traditional Chinese medicine but is more than that in meaning. It gathers in the brain, heart, lung, and bones, controlling aspiration, circulation, the senses and movement.
